Designing and building a social travel mobile app end to end as sole engineer, from scoping documents through a proof of concept to a release candidate now approaching closed beta on Android. I also designed the multi-agent AI engineering system the app is developed with.

• Product & Architecture

  • Architected and built a cross-platform mobile app in React Native, Expo and TypeScript on a Supabase (PostgreSQL) backend: about 70,000 lines across roughly 730 source modules, organized in layers (domain, services, query, hooks, components), with realtime messaging and internationalization.
  • Migrated from Firebase / Firestore to PostgreSQL after the proof of concept: per-read pricing and over-fetching were incompatible with a near-zero-cost launch, and the domain had become strongly relational. Redesigned the schema around a generic publication model, so content types beyond trips can be added without rework.
  • Planned and delivered a 14-wave migration to React Query as the single server-state layer. Each wave was designed, implemented and reviewed as its own pull request, keeping the app shippable throughout. Per-screen caching and race handling gave way to one shared cache, which also removed redundant network requests across the app.

• Quality & Engineering Governance

  • 6,700+ automated tests across 370 suites, with about 96% statement coverage enforced by per-path thresholds under a never-lower policy. Every change passes pre-commit hooks and a two-job CI pipeline (lint/typecheck, tests).
  • Set up a versioned conventions tree of per-layer and cross-cutting guidelines with stable rule IDs, amended only through a formal RFC process. Every structural choice is recorded as an Architecture Decision Record.
  • Ran delivery through GitHub Projects with custom fields and a milestone-gated launch roadmap: 140+ merged pull requests and 530+ closed issues to date.

• AI Engineering System

  • Designed a multi-agent development system on Claude Code: seven specialized roles (architect, implementer, reviewer, project manager, product owner, guideline architect, issue editor), each working from a briefing pack, with plan-then-execute separation and mandatory review artifacts.
  • Built an autonomous "AI factory" on GitHub Actions. Labeling an issue starts an architect → implementer → reviewer → fix-loop pipeline in an isolated worktree; stages exchange JSON-schema contracts, pass deterministic quality gates, can pause for clarification through issue comments, and end by opening a pull request.
  • Evaluated it on real runs: in its first evaluation, all 54 pull requests it opened were merged and none were reverted. Failed runs were traced to orchestration rather than model output, then fixed in a dedicated hardening iteration.
  • Evaluated retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) for the agents and recorded the decision: a per-source strategy using agentic search for code, a deterministic rule index for guidelines, and embeddings only for backlog deduplication. A vector database was rejected at the current scale on cost/benefit grounds.

Independent Technical Consultant

Two years on a working-holiday visa, traveling 50,000 km across 10 provinces and 1 territory while taking on technical work: remote missions, on-site projects and AI research.

• Hospitality Client (Nov 2023 – Dec 2024)

  • Took over a resort's web and IT systems, on-site for a winter, then through on-demand remote missions covering projects, maintenance and incident response.
  • Rebuilt the resort's website around a design system. Built and launched a second site for its gardens, with a planting calendar synchronized with the team's spreadsheets.
  • Designed booking for a multi-level accommodation offer (individual suites, whole-venue bookings, a chalet rentable as one or two units, long-term chalets), each with its own business rules, through a custom plugin and front-end extensions built on top of the CMS's generic booking engine.
  • Aggregated booking platforms (Booking.com, Airbnb, etc.) and phone reservations into one central calendar, ending recurring double bookings. Seasonal prices and offers now come from a single source of truth.
  • Delivered a restricted staff calendar showing only the minimum guest data the team needed to plan cleaning and access at a glance.
  • Improved site performance and SEO, contributing to a 30% increase in winter-season customer engagement.
  • Secured forms with reCAPTCHA, hardened access to the systems, launched newsletter campaigns and an ambassador program, and documented the whole setup.

• Agricultural Project

  • Built a Python and Excel data pipeline that extracts historical results from a livestock auction website, cleans and reshapes them, and charts seasonal price trends so a goat farm could choose when to sell.

• R&D: AI Quiz Platform (Dec 2023 – Dec 2024)

  • Designed and prototyped a platform that generates quizzes with LLMs (Vertex AI) on GCP: containerized microservices targeting Cloud Run, Cloud SQL for quiz content, Firestore for user data and metrics, and a React Native client.
  • Paused it on an architecture finding: preventing near-duplicate questions required sentence embeddings and a vector store, which broke the near-zero-cost model. Topics that are ambiguous across languages remained a second open problem.
